Fritz Bauer - człowiek który nie pozwolił Niemcom zapomnieć o przeszłości
Pracując w wymiarze sprawiedliwości rodzącej się Republiki Federalnej Niemiec, prokurator Fritz Bauer starał się być głosem jej sumienia. Więzień obozów, zbiegły Żyd, który w 1949 r. powrócił do kraju, by objąć stanowisko prokuratora generalnego Hesji we Frankfurcie nad Menem.
Za jego sprawą zrehabilitowano uczestników zamachu na Hitlera z 20 lipca 1944 r., a III Rzesza oficjalnie została uznana przez sąd za „państwo bezprawia”. To Bauer przekazał izraelskiemu Mosadowi trop, który doprowadził do porwania i osądzenia Adolfa Eichmanna. Ogromny był także jego wkład w przeprowadzony w latach 60. we Frankfurcie proces zbrodniarzy SS z KL Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Działając w powojennej, a więc pozornie sprzyjającej rzeczywistości, Fritz Bauer często natrafiał na niechęć czy wręcz sprzeciw kolegów, mających nierzadko niejasną przeszłość uwikłaną w narodowy socjalizm. Również państwo niemieckie starało się unikać rozliczania z udziału w zbrodniach nazistowskich. Dlatego Bauer nie ufał jego organom.
Stąd też o większości jego dokonań dowiedzieliśmy się dopiero po jego śmierci. Śmierci nader tajemniczej. Kim tak naprawdę był ten osamotniony wojownik o prawdę?
