In Extremis. Moje wspomnienia z Auschwitz





„In Extremis” to autentyczna i poruszająca opowieść człowieka, który stał się mimowolnym świadkiem najmroczniejszych wydarzeń XX wieku.
Jerzy Widera, urodzony w 1918 roku, w momencie wybuchu II wojny światowej jest studentem III roku Politechniki Warszawskiej. Szybko angażuje się w działalność konspiracyjną w swoim rodzinnym mieście Częstochowie. Na skutek donosu zostaje aresztowany przez gestapo i po okrutnych przesłuchaniach trafia do Auschwitz. W obozie pracuje w różnych komandach, w końcu dzięki swojemu inżynierskiemu wykształceniu zostaje przyjęty do Baubüro Zentralbauleitung, gdzie ma dostęp do planów rozbudowy obozu oraz do tajnej niemieckiej korespondencji. W październiku 1944 roku zostaje przewieziony do obozu Gross-Rosen, a następnie w morderczym marszu ewakuowany do obozów Buchenwald i Flossenbürg. W kwietniu 1945 roku zostaje wyzwolony na terenie Niemiec przez armię amerykańską. Po wojnie Jerzy Widera kończy studia techniczne w Stuttgarcie i wraca do Warszawy, aby odbudować zniszczony kraj. Zdobywa dalsze stopnie naukowe, jest wykładowcą i autorem fachowych książek. Na spisanie swoich wspomnień z czasów wojny decyduje się późno, a przekonują go do tego – jak sam przyznaje – ostatnie wydarzenia na świecie i widmo ponownego zagrożenia ludzkości.
